Welcome
Black Swans, by definition are disruptive. We don't always agree with each other - indeed we shouldn't, if we want true discussion. But we love to engage in healthy debate and always do our best for our learners. We love PROGRESS.
The best part: as a quasi-secret society, we get to hang out with people who understand our motivations and our passions.
Some areas are open to non-members. We invite you to look around. If you think the Black Swan Society is a good fit for your active membership, take a second to complete the questions and post a representative avatar in the membership request. Let us know how you found out about us.
Active membership includes posting and/or commenting at least once a week. There are lots of ways to do this, as this community has blogs, wikis, member pages and discussion boards.

It pains me to come back after a long hiatus from blogging with this, but it’s a personally sad day for the family around these parts. Today, after a long year of watching his health decline, we had to put Mr. Chompers down. My parents and I had a few d [...]

This month's "Nuts and Bolts" column takes on a common problem: sometimes in our enthusiasm we may be creating the very resistance we're trying to overcome. "What we find cool, others find intimidating. What we find useful, others find threatening. What w [...]

I'm sensing something in the tabs. There is a shift in the flow of the infostream. Eddies of data are harboring tadpoles of nascent thoughts. I'm also listening to the Writer's Almanac every morning. Is it showing? This isn't feeling...

I’ve just re-read the first few chapters of Steven Johnson’s “Where good ideas come from: The Natural History of Innovation” (you can watch the TED Talk or watch the RSA Animates video, but I highly recommend the slow read through the actual [...]

I read my browser tabs like tea leaves I think. I look across the top row there and I try to discern what the tabs are telling me. Is there something bubbling up? What's gaining heat or buzz? I'm not...

At the moment when a person becomes inspired to make a change, how can an organization support him or her to make that change in their life or to facilitate that change in the lives of others? Yesterday, during a conversation with my new friend Holly (who [...]
